         Introduction

 

The  Olympic Games take place every four years. About 10.000 competitors from 200 different countries participate In about thirty different sports. The Games start when the Olympic torch arrives at the stadium.

 

         With this webquest you will learn things about the Olympic Games.

 

 

 

            The task

        

 

In groups of four students, you must:

 

·        Find out where are the 2008 Olympics.

 

·        Produce a map of Asia where these Olympics are.

 

·        Discover which are the three activities in the triathlon.

 

·        Look for information about taekwondo and where is this sport from?

 

·        Know from 2004, which sport is for women too?

 

In order to do those tasks you will visit some web pages, copy some pictures, use the word processor, store all your work in a file and print it.

 

 

 

The process

 

 

The teacher will asign you to a group. You must remember that this is a group work and you must collaborate with your classmates.

 

The group will split into two pairs, A and B.

 

Pair A:

 

Ø     Create a file where you can store the pictures and text you need for your project. Give it the name “project Olympics”

 

Ø     Look for a picture of these items:

 

q       The Olympic flag.

q       The Olympic torch.

q       Three Olympic sports.

q       Four famous competitors who have already won at the Olympic Games.

q       An important stadium.

q       Three famous Olympic cities.

 

Then copy the pictures and keep them in your “project Olympics” file.

                           

Ø     Copy the following table and paste it on a new processing document. Then look for the information you need and complete the table

Ø     Look for information about the  summer games and the winter games.

 

Ø     Find some pictures about these games.

 

Ø     Then copy the pictures and keep them in your “project torch”

 

Ø     Search for information about when and where the Olympic Games were celebrated at the first time.

 

Ø     Find out when the women were allowed to take part in the Olympic Games.

 

Ø     Open a word processing document and paste this table on it. Then find ten sports.

 Assessment

 

          The group must present a document with these pages as a final result of their webquest:

 

v   Page 1: map of Asia with the city where the 2008 Olympics are in different colour. Map of Greece situating Olympia in it, and table with the information about cities and countries where the Olympic Games are.                                                            

                     

v   Page 2: pictures of the Olympic flag, the Olympic torch, four famous competitors who have already won at the Olympic Games, an important stadium and three famous Olympic cities.

 

v   Page 3: pictures of three Olympic sports and table about ten sports.

 

v   Page 4: An essay about the Olympic Games writing on its history, the different games (summer games and winter games) , women in Olympics and everything related with them (at least 100 words).

 

  

Conclussion

 

To sum up It can be said that motivated students learn easier and better. A webquest no only helps them to learn in a funny way but teaches them to look for information, investigate and create their own opinions using the internet like a resource to get a learning based on a critical thought and creativity.
